MSO Class of 2020

Tonight was supposed to be MSO Spring Concert and the final concert for our seniors. Traditionally the seniors are recognized and awards are given.  So tonight Mrs. DeRose, Mona Shores Orchestra Parent Association Board went on the road to present awards, present MSO 2020 yard signs, and have the seniors sign a violin that will hang in the high school orchestra room.

The parade of cars honked as they approached a seniors home and stopped to cheer on the seniors from an acceptable social distance as Mrs. DeRose recognized the class of 2020. Most of the seniors were home but we did leave surprises for each of them. It was a fun night seeing the seniors with smiles on their faces. As the fun continued we even added a few more cars with seniors and parents .

Congratulations to the Class of 2020 and best of luck on your next adventure.

Chamber Orchestra Pittsburgh Bound

2016-2017 Chamber Orchestra
2016-2017 Chamber Orchestra

Wishing safe travels, best of luck and congratulations to the Mona Shores Chamber Orchestra.

Yesterday on their performances at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra District 7 Orchestra Festival at Grand Haven yesterday. They performed for a panel of four expert adjudicators who rated the groups in the five areas of Tone, Intonation, Rhythm, Interpretation, and Technique. The Concert Orchestra earned an Excellent rating.

Scheduling worked out yesterday that after the required material for the MSBOA Orchestra Festival the adjudicators came in and gratiously gave a mini session as the Chamber Orchestra as was playing their remaining pieces for their National Orchestra Festival performance this weekend.

The Chamber Orchestra is on their way  now to National Orchestra Festival in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The festival is one of the many events that takes place during the American String Teachers Association’s National Conference. Fewer than thirty school orchestras from the entire country have been selected to participate this year. Our orchestra is very excited to receive this invitation to perform on a national stage!

This is an incredible opportunity for our orchestra. After the Chamber Orchestra performs, they will receive feedback from the adjudicators and work directly with one of the clinicians in a hour long workshop. Chamber Orchestra members will also have the opportunity to attend the educational sessions associated with the National Conference.

2014 MSBOA Dist 7 Festival MS Results

Congratulations to our 7th and 8th grade orchestras for their performance on February 19 at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Associations District Seven Festival in Grand Haven. Each ensemble was judged in the categories of Tone, Intonation, Rhythm, Technique, and Interpretation on three prepared pieces, and also judged on their ability to sight read, playing a piece they had not seen before.   Both groups earned an overall first division rating, meaning they had “A” grades in the categories mentioned . Great job Middle School Orchestra Students!
